Ojo, Lagos state – The Labour Party (LP) has suspended Seyi Sowunmi, the lawmaker representing Ojo Federal Constituency in the house of representatives in Abuja.
The Ojo Chapter of the Labour Party in Lagos state suspended Sowunmi for three months.
The Chairman, Oluwanifemi Elegbede, and Secretary, Blessing Okafor, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday, August 28.
Sowunmi was suspended because he refused to appear before the disciplinary panel of the party after 24 hours of summons.
According to the statement, the LP disciplinary committee had earlier summoned Sowunmi on Aug. 26, 2024, to appear before the Ojo Labour Party Disciplinary Committee within 24 hours.
The party said documents made available to the disciplinary committee showed that Sowunmi’s refusal to appear before the disciplinary committee shows gross insubordination to the party.
He was also accused of not attending any ward meeting, Voice of Nigeria reports.
Wards A and D stated in a letter that he is not a registered member of their wards.
Meanwhile, TimesNow.com.ng reported that the political drama in the Labour Party took a new dimension as the opposition party took decisive action against its key chieftain.
LP removed its treasurer over a rift between her and the party’s national chairman, Julius Abure.
This is because Oluchi Opara accused Abure of mismanaging the party funds and also requested him to account for the funds earned by the party from the sale of the 2023 election forms.
