See more as Dangote refinery rolls out first petrol, new promises made to Nigerians

The milestone was achieved on Tuesday, September 3, 2024.

At a press conference on Tuesday, billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote, the owner of the refinery, declared that “it’s a celebration day” for Nigerians as he presented the first sample of petrol.

Speaking to journalists, Dangote expressed his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for permitting the sale of crude oil in naira.

He also said that his refinery will meet the demands of not only Nigerians but also sub-Saharan Africa.

Dangote also said that his company is finalising modalities with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), and the product will soon hit the market.

TimesNow.com.ng reported that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd would exclusively purchase the refinery’s petrol.

The news comes a day after the NNPC said it is grappling with severe financial challenges as it battles mounting debt to petrol suppliers, raising concerns about the sustainability of Nigeria’s fuel supply.

Other marketers are expected to be able to buy directly in the future as well.
