The Nigerian Senate has referred Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions for disciplinary review following a heated exchange with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The decision was reached unanimously, with the committee, led by Senator Neda Imaseun, given a two-week deadline to present its findings.
A video that recently surfaced online captured the moment Akpabio ordered Akpoti-Uduaghan’s removal from the Senate chamber, sparking discussions online.
During the debate, Senator Yemi Adaramodu called for firm disciplinary measures, stating, “Where there is sin, there must be a penalty.”
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele also weighed in, reaffirming the need to uphold the Senate’s integrity and rules.
‘’There is no one who does not have an opinion on this issue, but we are unified by our rules. Under our watch, we will not allow this institution to be discredited beyond what we inherited. Integrity is non-negotiable.”,” Bamidele stated.
