A 43-year-old man, Oluwole Johnson, has been sentenced to two years in prison by a Federal High Court in Lagos for illegal possession of two kilograms of a potent cannabis strain known as “Loud.”
The ruling came after Johnson pleaded guilty to a charge brought against him by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). Justice Akintayo Aluko delivered the verdict after Johnson admitted to trading in the banned substance during his arrest on February 8, 2025, at Lake View Estate, Phase 1, Ago Palace Way, Lagos.
The NDLEA prosecutor, J.E. Negedu, confirmed that Johnson’s actions violated Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act, prohibiting the illegal dealing of narcotics. Evidence, including the seized drugs, was presented in court and accepted by the judge.
Johnson’s lawyer, Sunday Okwo, pleaded for leniency, citing his client’s status as a first-time offender who had expressed remorse. Despite this, Justice Aluko handed down a two-year sentence, with the option for Johnson to pay a fine of N500,000 as an alternative to serving the jail term.
