Breaking: PDP governor orders newly elected chairmen, councillors to stay away from LG secretariats

Osogbo, Osun State – Governor Ademola Adeleke, has directed the newly elected local government chairmen and councillors to stay away from their respective secretariats.

Governor Adeleke said this is to prevent clashes with those allegedly occupying the offices illegally.

As reported by The Nation, Adeleke stated this while speaking at the swearing-in ceremony held at Government House, Oke-Fia, Osogbo, on Sunday, February 23, 2025.

The governor urged the newly elected local government officials to focus on delivering good governance in line with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) manifesto.

Adeleke instructed the newly elected LG officials to refrain from entering the council secretariats until the judiciary resolves the situation.

He emphasised patience and strict adherence to legal procedures.

Adeleke commended the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) for adhering to due process in conducting the Saturday, February 22, council elections.

TimesNow.com.ng earlier reported that Governor Adeleke sent a message to President Bola Tinubu after casting his vote at the local government election in the state.

Governor Adeleke commended Tinubu for upholding the rule of law which enabled his administration to conduct the local government election in the state.

Adeleke denied the report that he made an unprintable remark about the president in his broadcast, adding that he believed in the democratic principles of the president.

Also, TimesNow.com.ng reported that OSSIEC chairman Hashim Abioye alleged that the police arrested some of the Commission’s officials on election duty.

Abioye, in a viral video, also alleged that the police sealed off the head office of the commission without any court order.

According to the OSSIEC chairman, the police action led to the delay in distributing electoral materials to the polling units and made it impossible for them to provide identification tags to journalists.

Earlier, TimesNow.com.ng reported that the PDP candidates were declared winners in all the 30 local governments in the Osun state local government elections.

Abioye announced the winner of the poll at a press conference in Osogbo on Saturday evening, February 22, 2025.

The elections were conducted against the warning of the police and the AGF Lateef Fagbemi, who earlier cited the Court of AppeAal judgment that reinstated the sacked council chairmen.
